Banks TorqueTubes exhaust manifolds are streamlined to optimize exhaust flow and engine efficiency. Because the stock manifold flanges don’t align squarely with the ports, flow is restricted. Banks corrects the problem with thick flanges that are machined dead flat, and precisely fitted to the port pattern. You can hear the difference in the plusher, healthier exhaust note.

Unlike the stock exhaust manifolds, Banks TorqueTubes are built of heavy, 400-series stainless steel to weather a lifetime of heat, stress and abuse. The flanges, welded to the tube assemblies on both sides, will never crack or separate. The gaskets are made of SMI 900, a material that stands up to super-hot temperatures.

Bassani offers a line of emissions legal headers for a wide-range of cars, trucks and SUV’s. Bassani’s headers feature mandrel bent 14 gauge mild steel primary tubes, the exclusive “Extractor Collector” and gasketless ball and socket connectors. Bassani builds every header the best way they know how… in-house. They do all of their own tube fabricating, bending, welding, etc… when it says Bassani… it means Bassani BUILT! Every header application comes complete with premium gaskets, nuts, bolts, hardware and detailed instructions. Most applications are available in industrial chrome or high temperature ceramic coating.

Downey spent large amounts of time and money testing Header theories on Toyota engines during 1985. Before 1985 we had sold many 1 5/8 inch tubing Headers with a 2 1/2 inch stinger pipe that reduced down to 1 ¾ inch. Downey’s dyno testing verified that the restriction was necessary to prevent a drop in H.P. as the RPM increased. Downey thus theorized that a Tri-Y Header might give good performance at higher RPM, so they then purchased a 1 5/8 inch Tri-Y Header for testing purposes. Downey also theorized that smaller diameter tubing would create drastically improved low RPM performance, so Downey manufactured a 1 1/2 inch tubing 4 into 1 and Tri Y Header for testing purposes.

This test was conducted on a 1985 EFI 4 Runner. It confirmed Downey’s theories and proved the following:

The 1 5/8 inch Tri-Y does very little at lower RPM but does give very good performance at higher RPM with a 7 H.P. gain at 4500 RPM to the rear wheels.

The smaller tube Headers are extremely punchy in the lower RPM range, as expected, giving a 7 H.P. gain at 2500 RPM to the rear wheels.

Smaller diameter tubing will produce lower RPM performance where you want it (2500 RPM as opposed to 4500 RPM).

A Tri-Y design does NOT out-perform a 4 into 1 design on a Toyota engine. (both gave a 7H.P. gain)

And then a second testing was conducted,

The purpose of the second test was to see if a small tube tri-Y is the best design.

This test proved the following:

Tube diameter is important, tube routing or matching is not (at least on Toyotas)

There is no reason to offer a Tri-Y Header. Larger diameter tubing (1 5/8 inch) is of little use on your Toyota, and even with 1.5 inch tubing Tri-Y will not out perform a 4 into 1 Header.

Manufactured using mandrel-bent, mild steel tubing and surface-ground, thick steel flanges, PaceSetter Headers are an exhaust improvement that increases torque and horsepower by allowing more exhaust to flow out of the engine and reducing backpressure. All PaceSetter Headers come with hardware, gaskets and illustrated instructions and are backed by a three-year warranty. However, header bolts are not included. Available in either standard black painted finish.

Order black painted finish to keep costs down or strip and repaint your own favorite color, as the factory paint will burn off shortly after installation.
